Congratulations

The Global Design Project challenge this week is a theme challenge of “celebrate” and is just what I needed to inspire this next card. Just perfect timing in my opinion. Hi, I'm Leanne and I am a procrastinator. Ha! For some reason I think my best work comes out when the deadline is drawing near. Does this ever happen to you?

I was in need to create a congratulations card for my mother and her new hubby to be. They are getting married in Florida in a couple of days. Saturday to be exact. I pray they have perfect weather for their special day.

Since I'm a procrastinator, I didn't know how the card was going to look. I would generally sketch a layout or at least write down the supplies I want to use. And that didn't happen this time. Is it because we are coming up on the holidays? Holidays will need to wait because the wedding comes first in date order, then we can celebrate Christmas then onto the New Year. Sheesh the end of the year is just getting too busy as I age. I'm curious how do you start designing a card? Do you select the stamp set, colors or layout first? Or does it just happen in no particular order? How would you come up with a wedding congratulations card? Do you stick to a neutral color combination or incorporate colors, theme, flower or anything more from the invitation or from what you know of the people getting married? Ok sorry for all the questions but these questions were all going through my head. I needed this to be perfect. I mean it's for my mother. She is my biggest fan and encourages my craftiness and I didn't want to let her down. She is the one that got me hooked on stamping and paper crafting in the first place almost 14 years ago.

So here is how I began designing her card. I already knew that I wanted at least a few hearts and ended up using the Happy Hearts embossing folder and also the Mini Treat thinlits for a strip of hearts as an embellishment. I used their colors (light purple and gray) and flowers (Calla Lilies) to incorporate into their card. Like mother like daughter? If you couldn’t tell calla lilies, purple, gray and yellow are my absolute favorites. I wonder how you would know that. Hmmmm I bet if you looked around my blog you could just find out (in a few seconds) that about me based on the blog header. Ha! You just looked up. See I told you. I am flattered. Ok so what do you think, do you think she will like it?

Here is a closer view of the pleated Wisteria Wonder seam binding. I used my handheld stapler to hold the pleats together. I purposely hid the staples but believe me they are there. Probably about 3-5 staples holding the pleats and then I used the Tear and Tape Adhesive to hold it to the card.

I took a different angle to show you that I stamped the calla lilies twice. The first one I cut out using the Deco Labels. The second one I had fussy cut just the flowers so they could be popped up using dimensionals.

Do you see all the sparkle on the Calla Lilies? Yup that is the Clear Wink of Stella® glitter brush. I’m in need of a Wink of Stella® intervention. Or maybe I will just need to buy some more (a lot more). It seems that I’ve been using it on every crafting project I have been making since receiving my preorder on December 9th I must say that it’s my favorite new product coming out in the 2016 Occasions Catalog and a must have for you too!

I used the theme from Global Design Project (#GDP015).

Thank you for stopping by today. Be sure to return tomorrow for another crafting project.
