Starfish Sympathy

Happy Friday stampers!

What comes to mind what you see this color combination?

I think of the beach. With my toes in the sand, the blue ocean sending waves up the beach and the sun shining down on us. Is that what you thought too? It's nice to think of the beach in the middle of winter. Although in CT it really hasn't felt that way in a while since we've only had snow once since October. It's definately not a normal winter this year/season.

I tried to two step stamp the starfish and no matter how many times or color combinations it just was not working out. If I used one of those few I stamped, you would have needed 3D glasses to make your eyes not hurt while viewing the card. Stampin’ Up! designed the photopolymer stamps to have points specifically placed on the stamps to make sure you use them in the same direction. I just couldn’t get it to line up properly. So more practice on two step stamping starfish for me anyway. What I used on this card was just stamped with number 1 in So Saffron and fussy cut it out.

While I knew the starfish was going to be an element on my card, I wanted to make sure that the rest of the card coordinated with the theme. I guess it would be a theme because when I think of starfish I immediately think of the ocean and beach. The Lost Lagoon marble DSP from the Going Places paper stack looked like some waves with some sea foam washing up on the beach. My husband recommended a shell to be used as another element on the card. Out comes the By the Tide stamp set. Stamped the conch shell in Crumb Cake and fussy cut it out.

I was on the lookout for a background. I first had a Paper Tea Lace Doily laid out behind the “wave” banner and it looked ok but not really what I was looking for or what the hubby said looked like it didn’t belong together. So I went through my framelit book. Yes, I house all my framelits in a Stampin’ Up! binder on magnetic sheets. I’ll have to post about that in the future so you can see what I mean. While flipping through the binder I stopped at the Striped Scallop thinlet. Immediately I thought of netting. Ah ha moment! So I began to cut the Striped Scallop from Crumb Cake and then made sure to only cut out a 2” to use as my background piece.

I have a starfish, wave/water, conch shell and netting. Now I needed a sentiment. I took out the Occasions catalog and started flipping pages again. I stopped on page 18 at Rose Wonder stamp set. There were many sentiments and it was a stamp set I haven't used just yet. While some of the greetings were too large for the area I wanted to use it. The other delimma was not to bore you with another Thank You or Happy Birthday card. So I used "With Sympathy".  But you can easily swap out the senitment to be Thank You or Happy Birthday or Just Thinking of You, etc.
